Day 5/6/7 in the Land of Smiles: Bangkok (June 2015)

Day 5
Pratunum Market

There are 2 parts of the market. The section that is closer to Baiyoke Hotel has a night market while the main pratunum market only opens till 2000.

Pork Trotter and Intestine
Rating: 8/10

The pork trotter and intestine platter is a must order! By the time we finished eating at the restaurant, the pork trotter are all sold out! The wonton mee comes with 2 version. The special one has crab meat! The restaurant serves mainly Singapore customers when we are there.

Platinum Mall

Opening Hours:
0900 - 2000

The Platinum mall is NOT a 24 hours mall. The mall closes early at 8pm although there might be some makeshift stores outside of the mall.

Items in the platinum mall can be bargained as well. There is another mall called palladium that is located diagonally across Platinum. Do not bother to go there, the mall is like an empty shell.

Pat Pong Night market

Our dinner is at a roadside store at Pat Pong. We decided to try our their version of mix rice. I ordered a total of 4 dishes and a drink which costs me only 80 baht.

Patpong is infamous for their ping pong shows and the agogo shows.

Caution: There will be people lining the streets to lure you into watching the ping pong shows saying you just need to pay 100 baht for a drink and the show is free. The reality is once you are in, you have to pay 500 baht for the show and that gets you a free drink. Also, the pushers might also ask you to treat them a drink when you are inside. If you do, you will then have to pay another 500 baht for him as the drink and the shows come together at 500 baht. The pushers are in cahoots with those clubs there. Be warned!

Supper: Mercure Bangkok Siam room service

We were still hungry at night and decided to order supper! These 2 dishes only set us back by 290 baht! Very affordable room service.

Talad Rot Fai Market

Opening Hours
Thurs - Sun
1700 - 0000

Talad Rot Fai Market is located close to the Suvarnabhumi Airport. Travelling time is around 1 hour by cab. The total fare was around 360 baht. There are 4-5 malls that are in close proximity to the night market. One suggestion is to roam those malls in the day and the Talad Rot fai market in the night.

Talad Rot Fai market sells very cheap food with grilled sotong at only 30 baht. Similiar grilled sotong is selling at 100 baht at pratunum market.

The number of shops at Talad Rot Fai market are massive. There are many rows of shops in pasa malam setting, not counting those that are in permanent fixtures. This is definitely a must visit place when you are in Bangkok. The market is only opened from Thurs to Sun in the evenings. So do plan your schedule properly!

Day 7
Somboon Seafood at Siam Square One

We just could not have enough of Somboon. Our last lunch in Bangkok is none other than Somboon Seafood to satisfy our craving for the fried curry crab and fried fish before we return.

To the airport

We called a large cab from the hotel to the airport which cost a flat fare of 700 baht that includes all toll. The large cab has a boot big enough to store all our luggages

There is a massive queue at Thai Airways. Look for row H and J for Thai Airways check in. However, there are 3 queues reserved solely for online check in. To skip the normal queue, simply perform an online check via the Thai Airways mobile app and proceed to the the online check in queue with virtually no one queuing.

At the Airport

Mango Sticky Rice
Rating: 8/10
The airport sells freshly made mango sticky rice for travellers to bring back home. It costs 180 baht which is slightly more than outside. I bought one pack home for my parents and it tasted really good. Rating: 8/10

Boarding Time!

On the Plane

Thai Airways offer interactive touch screen TV where you can search for the dinner menu that will be served on the plane.
Chicken with noodles
Rating: 8/10
I chose the chicken with noodles which tasted great. It is much better than the breakfast that was served in the SIN - BKK leg.

Bought a little gift for myself. The flight supervisor gave me a USD 5 voucher for use for my purchase.

Real time video feed from the plane

I am home after 7 days in Bangkok. Time flies!

Do stay tune for the next blogging destination: Brisbane!
