Day 1 Kimchi land - Jeju

Day 0 (Pre-departure Planning)

Flights
My first destination to South Korea is Jeju. There are no direct flights from Singapore and most people transit in Seoul. Singapore Airlines, Asiana Airlines and Korean Air fly direct to Seoul while Scoot flies to Seoul via Taipei.

Cathay Pacific can also brings you to Jeju via a transit in Hong Kong. Hong Kong to Jeju will be via their regional carrier Dragon Air, recently renamed to Cathay Dragon to bring about product synergy.

The prices for Scoot all in which includes (Baggage, Meals and Seats selection) can go as low as SGD400 while prices for a SQ promo ticket can go as low as SGD628

Insurance
As usual, I purchased the citi-AIG insurance for 9 days that amount to SGD65. As always, buy through the bank, its cheaper but do check the coverage. For the Citi one, the coverage is the same as what AIG offers.

Transportation to Jeju
There are many domestic flights departing from Seoul to Jeju from their domestic Gimpo Airport. You have to take a 30 minutes train from ICN to GMP. Do note that gate close 30 minutes before departure at Gimpo and remember to plan sufficient time for the transit.

I missed my flight on my previous trip and had to be put up in a motel because all flights were full. Do book early to secure cheaper tickets and preferably on a weekdays. I chose T'way for my GMP to CJU leg and Jeju Air for CJU to GMP leg.

Transportation in Jeju
You have to self drive when you are there to be able to visit far away attractions as bus timings are limited.

There are many car rental options in Jeju. I have selected the cheapest one: AJ car rental which has a tie up with the international brand Avis so it is not too dubious. Like the other Korean car rental companies, you have to register a membership with them so that you can enjoy the enormous discount. I opted for the Samsung SM 5. Total car rental for a 3 full days was SGD150 which comes with the full zero excess insurance coverage. CHEAP!

3 Quarter tank petrol costs about SGD 50 (will elaborate more below)

CU Mini mart

Arrival at Incheon Airport. Bought my Data Sim and T money (Aka EZlink card) from the CU store. 1GB nano sim cost about SGD40. Alternatively, there are many mobile egg rental stores but you will have the hassle of returning them before departing and the prices are quire similar.

Bought this cute Line T money for 4000 KRW. Alternatively, you can purchase the plain card for 2500 KRW. Both have zero value inside so you have have to reload some money into the card for use. T money has no expiry so you can use them again on your next visit.

It is advisable to purchase the T money as you will save 100 won each trip with free bus to train transfer and you do not have the hassle of purchasing the single journey ticket everytime.

Jeju City - Old Side
My first night stay is at the old side of Jeju City where the famous black pork street and Noodle street is. Below is the map of Jeju City - Old

Jeju Oriental Hotel
I have booked this casino hotel through Agoda for a Saturday Night stay at a cost of SGD113. There was an additional 8% discount if you pay using the UOB card.

The hotel is just 10 minutes away from the airport. Total cab cost about SGD 6. One main reason for this hotel is that AJ Car rental offers delivery of the rental car to the airport at the stated time.
